How to write your copywriter website (the worst job ever)
I haven’t met a single copywriter who loves writing their own website copy. Or puts their own blogs at the top of their to-do list.
On LinkedIn, my timeline is full of comments like:
😬 My own marketing always comes last because it's so much easier to help my clients
👍 Who's with me when it comes to procrastinating about your own stuff but getting right down to client work?
☹️ I love my work, but when it comes to the selling part I get really uncomfortable
😫 Marketing and branding have me second-guessing everything
If your own marketing is ALWAYS rooted at the bottom of your to-do list, try this.
It's one of the best habits I've implemented in my business.
★ Make the most of your Mondays.
Doing your own marketing can be hard. As a copywriter, writing your own website copy can be TORTURE. It takes literally years😂
And there's no point me reminding you that your copy sells your business, and if you don't tell people what you do, nobody will buy, blah blah. Because you KNOW this. And your website still doesn't get written.
The usual advice is to carve out a regular time and just crack on with it.
And this works.
➡️ But choose a day when you'll feel your most energised. If you're procrastinating over your website copy, it'll be even harder to motivate yourself on a Friday afternoon when you've mentally checked out for the weekend.
I used to dedicate Mondays to client work, knowing that's when I'm feeling refreshed. And like everyone else, I planned to catch up with my own marketing and content on a Friday afternoon. And would let myself off the hook every week😂
Two years ago I switched things round, and Mondays are now dedicated to business development. Anything relating to strategy, planning, lead gen, marketing, copy - all takes place on a Monday.
It's been 10x more productive than cramming it halfheartedly into a Friday afternoon. When I now do my invoices👍
If this doesn't work and your website is still lacking great copy, feel free to email me!
